Naugatuck Man Wins a Powerball Prize That Takes the Cake

Over the last few years, Leo Hansen of Naugatuck has played Powerball twice a week with a combination of family birth date numbers. On Aug. 20, no birthday candles were needed to help make Leo’s wish come true. The winning Powerball numbers drawn on that date were, 5 - 9 - 11 - 16 - 66 and Powerball 7. On one board, four of the five numbers Leo played were a match, plus the Powerball number. Because he added Power Play to his Powerball ticket, Leo’s original $50,000 prize was multiplied by 2, the Power Play number drawn, for a total prize of $100,000. Winning another $242 on three other boards on his ticket was the icing on the cake.
“I scanned my ticket in the ticket checker, but I was in a fog. I didn’t even realize what I won!”
Leo, said he’ll put the prize money away towards the home he and his girlfriend plan to buy one day in South Beach. “We’ve been saving for years. We love it there.”
