CT LOTTERY MILLION-DOLLAR WINNING TICKET SPURS SURPRISE STOP & SHOP DONATION; NON-PROFIT HOPES TO PRESERVE A HISTORIC SCHOOLHOUSE

April 16, 2025

Trumbull, CT – April 16, 2025 – After receiving troubling news her future funding could be significantly affected due to federal budget cuts, Nancy Fisher, Co-President of the Trumbull Historical Society, scrambled to figure out how the non-profit could continue its mission of enriching the community through historical storytelling.

That was until she received an email from Stop & Shop saying the Society would be getting a donation. “When I first got the email, I didn’t know if this was legit,” she said upon reading it. “I asked myself, ‘Wait, is this for real?’… I almost fell over.”

It was a chance purchase from a player back in February at the Trumbull Stop & Shop of a $1,000,000 Titanium scratch game from the CT Lottery that led to Wednesday afternoon’s generous donation. Stop & Shop received a special bonus for selling the winning scratch ticket in the form of $10,000, one of the many benefits of being a CT Lottery retail partner. The supermarket chain graciously decided to reinvest that money back into the community by donating it to the Trumbull Historical Society.

During
a special check presentation, representatives from Stop & Shop, CT Lottery,
and the Trumbull Historical Society came together to celebrate the moment.
Several grocery shoppers at the store also attended the ceremony after the
store announced over its public address system that the presentation was being
made.

CT Lottery President and CEO Frank Suarez expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “We are honored to stand with Stop & Shop in support of community partners such as the Trumbull Historical Society. The CT Lottery is proud to assist our retail partners in supporting the communities in which they operate.”

Stop
& Shop District Director Paul Jahnige said he was thrilled to make the donation. “The Trumbull Historical Society has done so much to honor the traditions and history here in Trumbull. As a community partner, we want to honor that pride our neighbors have. We wanted to make sure the Society has the community funding it needs to do this important work. It comes down to being local and being in the community that we serve.”

Fisher
says the $10,000 donation will go toward several Society initiatives, including
potentially preserving, protecting, and telling the story behind a historic
one-room schoolhouse that dates back to the late 1800s. The building was
disassembled for preservation purposes, but the Society hopes to rebuild and
refurbish it to continue telling the story of Trumbull.

“That’s one way of preserving Trumbull history,” said Fisher. “It’s important to the town.”

$1,000,000 Titanium scratch game top prize is still somewhere out there waiting
