The Connecticut Lottery Corporation Kicks Off Annual National “Lottery Week,” Highlighting North American Lotteries’ Contributions to their Communities
The CLC will celebrate Lottery Week and its 50th Anniversary with a Pop-Up Event at Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk on July 20
July 18, 2022 – The Connecticut Lottery Corporation (CLC) has kicked off the annual national “Lottery Week,” in collaboration with lotteries across North America. Lottery Week, now in its fourth year, is a celebration of lotteries across the United States and Canada, in acknowledgement of their collective, positive contributions to the communities they serve.
Throughout the week, the Connecticut Lottery will highlight across its social media its contributions to the state of Connecticut. As part of the Lottery Week celebrations, the CLC will host a pop-up event on Wednesday, July 20, at Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk, located at 100 Westport Avenue, from Noon – 2 p.m. The Lottery will give away coupons for free lottery tickets, commemorative Connecticut Lottery 50th Anniversary Avery’s sodas, and swag items to eligible members of the public, while supplies last.
On average, about 95% of funds generated from traditional U.S. lottery games goes directly back into the economy through prizes, public beneficiaries and retailer commissions. In Connecticut, the CLC returned $406 million* in profits to the state, $901 million* in prizes to players, and $81 million* in commissions to its retailers in fiscal year 2022.
Beyond the numbers, lottery organizations and their partners are often involved in directly supporting local causes as well, by hosting events like food drives and community cleanups. They team up with responsible gambling groups to educate their retailers and consumers, and to help encourage safe, responsible play. And, of course, they provide a fun, exciting source of entertainment for all their players – not to mention a big payout for the lucky winners.
Lottery Week evolved from an idea implemented by the Massachusetts Lottery in 2018. Declaring July 17, 2018 as the official National Lottery Day, Mass Lottery offered players and retailers a special day of exciting lottery promotions, celebrating the provision of billions of dollars in local aid provided since the state’s Lottery was created in 1972.
